June 4, 1970 — PACKED HOUSE

The SHS gym was packed Monday as 186 seniors and their families filled the facility for graduation. The unusually warm evening had some in shirt sleeves, as the graduates sweltered under red and white gowns. Dr. William Morton of the board of education gave out diplomas. Many seniors returned to the stage afterwards for pictures with Dr. Morton. Principal Sodorff had asked that no flash pictures be taken as seniors came down the steps, as one year a girl tripped and fell after someone flashed a bulb in her face. After the commencement program many of the seniors adjourned to the Sandpoint Elks club where an all-night party was held for them.

The long debated county road to the Armstead mines at Talache is on the way to realization. A gang of 16 men from the mine are working with dynamite in expectation of completing the road to the head of Shepard lake, a mile and a half from Sagle. Neighbors along the road are at work with the Armstead men and a crew of 25 is making the work fly. Tuesday, Commissioner Melder made arrangements for the county to furnish two teams and four men to help in the grading later on.
