New market opens for business

SAMUELS — A desire for a local farmers market is bearing fruit today as the Upper Pack Farm & Art Market is opening today for the first time.

The new market, will open from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., in the yard next to the Samuels Store with local vendors offering produce, plant starts, art and more. Organizers said the market will be open the first and third Saturdays of the month through September. A harvestfest event is also planned for October.

“This venture has started due to a desire from some of the folks living on the Upper Pack River Road to have a local farm market that represents their community,” Barbara Nunke said.

All of the vendors are from the Upper Pack River Road area and the neighboring communities, including Naples and Samuels.

“There is an amazing amount of talented and hard working people that live in this area and this is a great opportunity to see what they have to offer,” Nunke said. “For the people that live around there, this is also a great opportunity to network with our neighbors and to really foster a greater sense of community.”

Nunke said organizers and vendors are excited for this venture and grateful to the Samuels store for helping them find a spot and their willingness to help make the market a reality.
