KOOTENAI — Nancy Lewis has dedicated her energy, efforts and time to serve the community. And, if that’s not enough she also serves as the mayor of the city of Kootenai.

Lewis, who is serving her second four-year term and also served as a member of the City Council, was recently selected by the Women Honoring Women committee as a 2020 Woman of Wisdom.

Working in collaboration with commissioners, law enforcement, schools, retail businesses and citizens has been important for her and she is highly regarded for all her work.

The Sandpoint Lions Club has been a focus and dedication for many years, working tirelessly to help raise funds for “Toys for Tots” each year. She volunteers to sell tickets at grocery stores for any Lions club event. She works hard on the Turkey Bingo and the Fourth of July parades.

Nancy has been very instrumental in promoting the special bus service Selkirk-Pend Oreille Transit, a great major service for the community. She is currently the president on the SPOT board.

Volunteering is in her DNA, being involved with CAL, Bonner County Fair Board and PEO Chapter CA in Sandpoint. She doesn’t know the “no” word when asked to become involved in any project for these or any of the organizations she participates in. She gives herself to help others never seeking the spotlight, not needing an ego boost and instead, offering part of her very soul to help make our community better.

By Nancy’s nomination letters she is deserving of this nomination and respected in the community. She always seems happy and in a good mood making those around her feel good also.

Lewis is a true Woman of Wisdom perfect for this Lifetime Achievement Award, organizers said.

To be nominated for Woman of Wisdom, candidates must be 65 years or older. She possesses vision and achieves goals through collaboration. She exhibits a love of learning through the pursuit of knowledge by study or experience. She shows a commitment to the Bonner County community and its members, and has had a positive impact, such as in the areas of art, music, theater, dance, sports, education and service. She demonstrates dedicated leadership that results in admiration and respect from others. She is an inspiration to others and an example for future generations of women. She faces life’s challenges with grace and courage, and lives with dignity, integrity and honor.
