June 21, 1970 – MANCUSO TOP STUDENT
Charles Mancuso, Rt. 1, Samuels, received his Associate of Applied Science degree at Spokane Community College graduation exercises. A diesel heavy duty equipment major, Mancuso was recognized for his straight A record in the 2-year program. To honor his achievement and technical skill, he received a plaque and a tool kit worth $120.

SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY
A surprise birthday party was held June 6 for the 4th birthday of Carl Duane Converse, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Converse, in the home of his grandparents, the Dan Converses, at the Sandpoint Airport. Attending were Carl’s little brother, Glen Lee; Diana Allen; Jerry and Robby Hindberg; Kim Knoblich; the honoree’s mother, Mrs. Ron Converse; his grandmothers, Mrs. Dan Converse and Mrs. John Breeden; and his aunts, Mrs. Marvin Hindberg and Miss Linda Breeden.

TROPICAL FISH GO FROM HOBBY TO JOB
Ralph Dazey is a new First Ave. businessman, all because a hobby outgrew his home. Dazey, a carpenter, began raising tropical fish a few years ago. As the avocation became more engrossing, he became more deeply involved. When Dazey opened the Panida Aquarium shop at 113 N. First a few weeks ago, his hobby had expanded to 21 fish tanks, with about 75 varieties, from goldfish to piranhas. He has a full line of supplies, with tanks up to 90 gallons, and can build larger tanks on order.

F.O. Hagie, a teacher in the Sandpoint school last term, has been selected secretary of the chamber of commerce. He has had experience in Chautauqua work and served in France in the aviation service. He understands Sandpoint’s needs and is a competent man for the position.

WEDNESDAY’S CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS
Auditor McCrea and Prof. Hagie from the chamber of commerce at Wednesday’s council meeting asked for the use of the engineer’s room as a meeting place for the chamber, which was granted, as Miss Djupe, city and school nurse, has moved to the Central school building. Mr. McCrea, before leaving passed the cigars in recognition of quick service of the council in attending to his sidewalk grade last week.
It was decided that the Civic club shall have full charge of the beach bathhouse. Twenty-five dollars was allowed to keep the city park in order.

GLENGARY SCHOOL SENDS TOYS
Miss Leota Case, teacher of the Glengary school, sent in a box of toys made by her pupils to the local Red Cross. The work was well done and made of wood, by hand and painted in high colors. Glengary school was the first to send toys for the children across the ocean. These will be shipped to Seattle and from there overseas.
