NAMPA — In his senior season, Priest River’s Truxton Wilson wrapped up his wrestling career with a third place finish at the 3A state championships this past weekend.

Wilson started the tournament Friday with a pair of pins at 220 pounds in his opening two matches to advance to the semifinals. In his semifinal bout Saturday, Wilson fell by pin to South Fremont’s Sawyer Hobbs, who went on to become the 11th state wrestler in 3A state history to win four consecutive state titles.

Wilson rebounded with two straight victories by pin to claim third place after capturing fourth at 182 pounds last season.

“I’m very proud of Truxton to not leave anything on the table, by out placing both of his opponents that placed higher than him in districts,” head coach Quinton Holbrook wrote.

Four other Priest River wrestlers competed at state. Freshman Hayden Sorbel (98), sophomore Keith Poirier (120), freshman Aidan Troumbley (120) and sophomore Bradley Bennett (160) all went 1-2 at state and were eliminated on the first day.

“They all had a win which is huge for their confidence for next year,” Holbrook wrote. “I think a few of them think they could have done better which is good because it will give them more drive and leadership for next year.”

As a team, the Spartans finished 17th out of 19 3A schools.
