Legacy Wrestling Club impresses in three winter tournaments

Sandpoint Legacy Wrestling Club has been practicing through the winter and keeping their skills sharp while competing this past month in three different tournaments.

In Deer Park, Washington, on Feb. 2, 13 of the 15 wrestlers from Sandpoint placed in the top three of their round-robin brackets.

Beau Cates, Miro Parr-Coffin and Tyler Wood all captured first at the tournament, Boheme Parr-Coffin, Paloma Parr-Coffin, Spencer Warren, Maxx Watson and Logan Wood secured second-place finishes and Summer Birch, Vanessa Hood, Parker Warren, Robert Warren and Zak Wood brought home third place medals.

The Idaho Folkstyle State Tournament was held in Meridian, Idaho, on Feb. 8. Tyler and Zak Wood represented Sandpoint at the statewide tournament. Tyler bested all of his opponents to become the state champion at 63 pounds in the 10U division while Zak wrestled back to take second place at 67 pounds in the same division.

Most recently, 28 members of the team wrestled in the Big Cat Battle on Saturday in Mead, Washington. The team’s hard work and dedication was evident as they competed in 128 round-robin matches and came home with a team high record of 22 medals.

Placers this past weekend included: Kaleb Bogadi, Cole Martin, Jacob Neff, Paloma Parr-Coffin, Damen Therrien, Maxx Watson, Joe Neff, Miro Parr-Coffin and Tyler Wood all took first. Boheme Parr-Coffin, Olivia Watson, Beau Cates, Paden Hinds, Conner Brown, Robert Warren and Zak Wood all captured second. Colter Cates, Gage Martin, Dominic Ratigan, Parker Warren, Logan Wood and Carter Yetter all secured third.

Sandpoint Legacy Wrestling has a full schedule of tournaments over the next five weeks as they begin the spring wrestling season.
