May 12, 1970 — NEW FFA OFFICERS

Installed as officers of the Sandpoint High School Future Farmers of America Chapter were Woodie Campbell, president; Rick Larkin, vice president; Barry Johnson, secretary; Bill Roberts, treasurer, Rick Bricker, reporter; Jed Turnbull, sentinel; and Archie Gollen, chaplain.

SPRING CONCERT NUMBERS EXCELLENT

The SHS spring concert featured soloists Kent Lyons and Roger Hedlund on violins; Sam Ruyle on trumpet; Ted Hadley and Christi Cogswell on piano; and Ruyle, John Goin and Jake Kulhanek as a trumpet trio, all with Mrs. Marion Ruyle’s orchestra. Hadley and Miss Cogswell, who are the top scholastic students of the senior class, played the difficult piano duet work of “Exodus.”

Russell Whalen’s chorus was the second part of the program. For the final number, his folk-guitar class played “Putting On The Style,” done with style, with Ted Hadley at bass, and Diana Mahler and Cindy Roos at pianos. For the closing song, the chorus and orchestra joined the band.

NAZARENES WILL ATTEND ASSEMBLY

Pastor and Mrs. Don Gibbens of the Church of the Nazarene will attend the assembly of the Northwest district in Lewiston, accompanied by Mrs. Lela Osborne, Mrs. Margaret Agar, Mrs. Leahanne Lane and Mrs. Bertha Wright.

May 12, 1920 — CITY BREVITIES

Kenneth Murray, known to young Sandpoint as “The Count,” arrived here from Cement, Idaho, an up-lake port where he is a fireman on a local tug.

Walford Bergstrom has purchased the Travis residence property on North Florence avenue.

Dr. Anderson operated upon Mrs. F.F. Reem Tuesday at the Central hospital for removal of an abdominal tumor. She is making a rapid recovery.

TRACK TEAM IN THIRD PLACE

The Sandpoint high school track team autoed to Coeur d’Alene Saturday and snared third place in the Panhandle track and field meet, in which five high schools of North Idaho were entered.

Roscoe Bower took first in the broad jump with 16 ft. 6 in. and Fred Eckholm took first in the shot put with 35 ft. 9½ in. Verne Ashley was second in the half mile run, and Eckholm took second in the javelin throw. Herbert Shook finished third in the 440 yard dash, Ashley third in the mile run, and Eckholm third in the discus throw.

MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE

The Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) will meet at the local post hall at 10 o’clock on May 31, Decoration day, for the observance of the day. They invite all the lodges and citizens to march with them to the cemetery for the usual services. Citizens with cars are asked to convey the members and W.R.C ladies to the cemetery.
