PHD: 1 new COVID-19 case in area

SANDPOINT — One new case of novel coronavirus emerged in Kootenai County over the weekend, the Panhandle Health District said on Monday.
There are 68 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with 64 cases in Kootenai County and four in Bonner County.
The virus, which causes COVID-19, has not been detected in Boundary, Shoshone or Benewah counties, according to the health district.
The health district said 64 people are no longer being monitored and the virus has caused seven hospitalizations.
The health district reminded residents Monday of ways they can protect themselves and others as Idaho businesses begin to reopen. They include thorough hand washing hands, social distancing, regularly cleaning and disinfecting, covering coughs and sneezes and wearing a face mask.
“Some of you may be experiencing isolation fatigue and are more than ready to leave your home. Do so, but do it cautiously and know what you can do to protect yourself and others,” PHD spokeswoman Katherine Hoyer said.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare reported on Monday there were 14 new confirmed or probable cases of coronavirus, bringing the statewide number of cases to 2,260. The virus has killed 70 Idahoans, the department said.
The number of coronavirus cases in Washington state’s Northeast Tri-County Health District remained flat on Monday. Pend Oreille County has two cases, while Stevens and Ferry counties have nine cases and one case, respectively. One person in the district was hospitalized and 1,088 district residents have tested negative for the virus.
The Montana Department of Public Health & Human Services reported one new confirmed case of coronavirus, pushing the statewide total to 459. There are seven cases in Lincoln County and no cases in Sanders County, according to the state.
