May 24, 1970 — MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Randy James received the SHS Most Valuable Player award for basketball from Coach Duane Ward Friday. James was one of the Bulldog stars who went to the state tournament this spring.

SELECTED FOR QUILL AND SCROLL
Two local high school Journalism students were selected for membership into Quill and Scroll, the national journalism honor society: Gail Hunter, business manager for the Cedar Post, SHS newspaper, and Sue Hamilton, editor-in-chief.

BOATMEN HOSTED K&K VISITORS
Seventeen boat owners took visiting sports writers and broadcasters fishing on the final day of K&K Week: Dr. Bill Morton, Boyd Stevens, Jay Mount, Terry Merwin, Charles Pennington, Jim Parsons, Lee Mahler, Laurin Pietsch, E.L. Kirkpatrick, Reg Batchelor, Norm Bauer, Dick Whittaker, Bud Moon, Ross Payne and Ted Farmin, all of Sandpoint; Norris Benson of Coeur d’Alene and Bing Farmin of Spokane.

OUTSTANDING JUNIOR WOMAN
Mrs. Charlie Bean (Carol Ann Ames), the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle E. Ames, Dover, was given the Outstanding Junior Woman of the Year award at Idaho State University. The award is given for best relations with the student body, graciousness, maturity, generosity and social tact.

ANOTHER LEGION CARD MONDAY
Frank Strong, athletic director of the local legion post, has completed arrangements for another slap-bang, go-get-‘em boxing smoker at the Liberty theater Monday. The main event will be a six round go between Bob Woolrich of Kootenai, former middleweight champion of England, and Benjamin S. Burkett of Laclede, a specialist in clean-up events. They will go at 158 pounds, three minutes to the round. Also featured will be a six round go between Jack Campbell, Sandpoint, and Paul Cartway, the “Bitter Root Kid,” of Deer Lodge, Mont., at 126 pounds.
