7 SHS athletes receive scholarships from Bulldog Bench
SANDPOINT — Bulldog Bench, the Sandpoint High School athletic booster club, has released its annual Senior Night scholarships for the SHS class of 2020.
Maddie Morgan received the David I. Lyon Memorial Scholarship of $2,500. Co-valedictorian Teigen Edmundson and salutatorian Paige Davidson each earned a Scholar Athlete Scholarship of $1,000.
Typically, the Bulldog Bench awards a David Jenkins Spirit of the Bulldog Scholarship to one male and one female athlete. But this year the booster club had a tough time narrowing the female award down to just three nominees so instead of splitting the scholarship among the three, they have decided to give a $1,000 scholarship to each. Jenny Slaveck, Mikayla Schoening and Izzo Edwards were the winners.
“They all deserve it and this class has had it tough enough this spring and we are more than glad to help out,” Bulldog Bench President Bob Witte wrote in an email.
Brandon Casey received the male David Jenkins Scholarship of $1,000.
The booster club also wants to give a special shoutout to Matt Mire, Bulldog Bench treasurer, for his tireless work conducting virtual interviews with a record number of applicants.
