May 31, 1970 — ELKS HONOR SENIORS
Sandpoint Elks scholarships were awarded to Ted Hadley, Linda Finney and Sam Ruyle. Elks Leadership awards went to Leslie Tatterson and Kent Lyons, first place; Ted Hadley, second; honorable mention, Linda Finney, Christine Cosgwell, Gwen Wylie, Carla Elliott, Bruce Carter and Randy James.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED AT CLASS DAY
Scholarships awarded at the SHS Class Day award ceremony were: P.E.O. Society — Gwen Wylie; Knights of Columbus — Margaret Lichter; Sandpoint First Presbyterian Church — Susan Johnson; Women of the Moose — Susan Johnson; William B. Hawkins memorial scholarship — Roy Jacobson; District 10 nursing scholarships — Kendell Kurrus and Diane Miller; Union Pacific — Louise McNall; Beta Sigma Phi — Edward Campbell; Sagle PTA — William Fletcher, Matt Turnbull and Steve Klatt; Sandpoint Rotary — Archie Gollen; SHS Teacher Education scholarship — Leslie Tatterson. Daniel Nordhagen received both the first Edward Abromeit memorial and the Mary Parker memorial scholarships.

VENISCHNICKS IN ETHIOPIA
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Venishnick and their daughter, Hildy, Sandpoint, left Monday for Ethiopia to visit their son, Joe E., who is stationed there with the U.S. Army.

May 31, 1920 — PIANO RECITAL
The piano students of Miss May Williams will be presented in a recital at the Pennington home, 520 North Third (Note: In 2020, Bonner General Health location), Monday at 8 p.m. Taking part are: Margaret Thomason, Ella May Farmin, Helen Ames, Douglas McFarland, Leila Andrews, Barbara Jane Von Canon, Eleanor Madoche, Glen Shook, Jean Madoche, Murtha Curtis, Viola Helmholz, Theron Andrews, Homer McFarland, Vergie Smith, Teresa Callender, Maxine Nelson, Freda Bunde and Anna Oleson.

CITY BREVITIES
The Cedar street bridge was closed to vehicle traffic last Saturday when repairs to the paving at the western approach were undertaken by the city. The ban on traffic lasted all the week.

PIONEERS CELEBRATE WEDDING
Mr. and Mrs. B.H. Courser, 219 Church street, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home Friday. The celebration was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moody, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Courser and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kitchen, Mr. Courser being a son and Mrs. Moody and Mrs. Kitchen daughters of the old couple. Also present were three grandsons, Eldon, Wallace and Harold Moody, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Prater, Mrs. Prater being a granddaughter, and their baby daughter Elsie Bernice. Miss Elsie Courser, a daughter, of Anchorage, Alaska, was unable to attend.
