Nov. 1, 1970 – CHURCH HOLDING DINNER

The Church of God, at Boyer and Pine, will hold its annual harvest dinner at Sandpoint Community hall from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The dinner is being served to the public and will feature ham and turkey with all the trimmings. The Rev. Claude Shattow, pastor, said the public is invited.

WOMEN TEACHERS HONORED

All women teachers of Bonner County district 82 will be honored at a reception Monday given by Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, Intl. honorary society for women in education, according to president Mrs. Gary Pietsch. Mrs. Priscilla Judge and Mrs. Dona Meehan are hostesses for the 7:30 p.m. reception at the New Farmin School. This is the third year for the event.

PEGGY ANN WATTS ENGAGEMENT TOLD

Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Watts, Woodland Drive, Sandpoint, announce the engagement of their daughter, Peggy Ann, to Kenneth E. Shadel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Shadel of Samuels. Miss Watts, a 1969 graduate of Sandpoint High School, is presently employed at the Idaho First National Bank. Mr. Shadel, a 1969 SHS graduate and recent graduate of Coeur d’Alene Junior College, is an employee of the Kaniksu National Forest Service. A June wedding is planned.

Mrs. C.B. Foote of Colburn reported seeing an almost total eclipse of the moon between 5:30 and 5:35 a.m. Wednesday. The eclipse occurred just as the moon was going down and nothing but a bright red rim on the lower right was visible. The eclipse was reported also from other areas.

According to the 1920 census, Bonner county has 1051 farms and Boundary county 347 farms. The two counties in 1910, when they both made up Bonner county, had 1068 farms, showing an increase of 330 farms in the ten-year period.

HOLD-UP MEN CONTINUE WORK

The masked men who held up the Beardmore camp on Pack river recently, are still operating. The did a similar job at Metaline Falls Thursday when they backed up 20 men, participants in and spectators of a poker game, against the wall of the boarding house of the Ohio Match company and relieved them of $120 in silver and currency exposed on the gambling table. The two hold-ups wore masks and when some of the bunch tried to escape, they were checked by a threat of death.

The Kootenai street crossings were installed and add much to the appearance of the town.

Kootenai school Principal Archie, is rounding up his boys with a view of organizing a juvenile band.
