SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Middle School eighth grade football team wrapped its season this Saturday with a 34-8 win over Lakeland at War Memorial Field.

Last Tuesday, the Bullpups hosted Timberlake and dismantled the Tigers 42-6.

Timberlake received the opening kickoff in the game, but with no kicking game the Tigers turned it over on downs to the Bullpups with 4:15 left in the first quarter.

Quarterback Andrew Lehman then connected with Jesse Turner on a 27-yard pass. A big first down run by Ashlei Hawkins set up SMS with a first and goal and Lehman found Turner for a touchdown. Lucas Johansen converted the two-point attempt to give the Bullpups a 8-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Timberlake turned the ball over on downs to SMS on their own 29-yard line. Penalties pushed the Bullpups back, but Lehman completed a 36 yard pass to Brady Newhart to set up a first and goal at the 5. Lehman found the end zone two plays later to give the Bullpups a 14-0 midway through the second quarter.

On the ensuing possession, the Tigers turned it over on downs thanks to a huge sack by Dalton Williams.

Later in the quarter, Lehman found Turner for a 9-yard touchdown pass. Then on the next Timberlake drive, Reid Bradburn came down with an interception to set the Bullpups up with great field position. Soon after Lehman found Newhart for another touchdown.

Bradburn secured another interception to help SMS preserve a 28-0 halftime lead over the Tigers.

Jesse Turner started the third quarter with a big 18-yard run, and Wyatt Burnett followed with a 10-yarder. Lehman finished the drive with a 22 yard scamper into the end zone. The Bullpups took a 34-0 into the fourth quarter.

Timberlake broke through early in the fourth quarter for its first and only score of the game, but SMS responded with 1:48 left in the game when Lehman found Newhart for a 4-yard score.

Lehman had six total touchdowns in the game and Newhart and Turner each caught two scores.
