Surprise birthday party held by PRLHS student body

100 Years Ago — 1920

Interested in law enforcement

An open meeting of the Cultus Club was held at the home of Mrs. F. F. Nelson to discuss political questions. During the past few months, the club has taken as its course of study the political questions and candidates, and the open meeting was to give these candidates the opportunity to appear before the club to discuss the duties of the office they are seeking. The women of the club were particularly interested in the law enforcement work of the county, chiefly that of the sheriff and the prosecuting attorney.

90 Years Ago — 1930

Briefs

Two robberies were committed in Priest River some time during the early hours of Wednesday at the Naccarato and Wright pool halls.

The new slaughter house being built by the People’s Market, Hill and Robinson proprietors, is nearing completion.

80 Years Ago — 1940

Harvey Wright, one of the pioneer business men of Priest River, passed away Oct. 15.

70 Years Ago — 1950

School news

A surprise birthday party was given for Mr. Lamanna Oct. 25 by the student body. He was presented with a desk set, after which Ice cream and cake were served.

Wayne Newcomb, who suffered leg injuries in an accident last summer, will be back in school next week.

60 Years Ago — 1960

Crowd enjoys ‘Clowns’

A good crowd turned out at the high school to watch the hilarious Harlem Clowns laugh to victory over the previously undefeated faculty team. On the faculty team were Chuck Coleman, Bud Dowling, Carl Herzog, Bill Pattie, Wayne Phillips, and Jim Piirto. The Clowns sneaked past their more serious opponents, 54-46.

50 Years Ago — 1970

Thama road dedication set

Dedication of the Thama Rock Cut and Johnson Creek section of Highway 200 and U.S 2 between Priest River and Sandpoint has been set for Nov. 19, John Scott, president of the Priest River Chamber of Commerce said. Mayor Ted Brower and Scott will head the dignitaries invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

40 Years Ago — 1980

New business opens

The Bohemian Trader opened recently at the former location of Betsy V Realty along Highway 2 on the west side of town. Owned and operated by Ivan Vitousek, the Bohemian Trader has government surplus clothing and hiking and camping supplies from throughout the world.

30 Years Ago — 1990

Priest River captures title

The Spartan boys’ cross-country team won the B class race at the District 1-11 Cross Country championship at Hells Gate State Park near Lewiston. Leading the team to its first-ever state title was Cameron York, who came from behind to win the race and the state gold medal with a time of 16:32.

2000 — 20 Years Ago

Local woman passes the bar

Corrina Sawyer, A 1989 graduate of Priest River Lamanna High School, took the oath to the bar in Colorado last week and was accepted by the national law firm of Kutak Rock in Denver. Sawyer is the daughter of Stephen Sawyer of Priest River and Annie Halstead, Hoodoo Valley.
