SANDPOINT — If you're looking to help a military veteran in need, you don't have to look far.

With Veterans Day drawing near, Veterans Post 2453 is offering for sale boutique-grade chocolate bars with proceeds going to veterans in the community who may be down on their luck.

The bars, which were made by Dennis Powell's Sandpoint Chocolate Bear, sell for $3 each. They are for sale for a limited time at Cafe Trinity, the UPS Store on Cedar Street in Sandpoint, Mountain West Bank in Ponderay and First American Title Co.

"Overall, it's one of our most important fundraisers," said Post 2453 Trustee Rich Faletto. "The money goes to help veterans that are in need."

All of the money raised during candy bar sales stays in the community and is used exclusively to help struggling veterans. Proceeds in the past have been used to fill a veteran's gas tank, purchase firewood, settle a dental bill or purchase groceries.

The bars have the phrase "Freedom is Sweet" stamped onto them. The bars, which are available for a limited time, sell well when they are offered around Valentine's and Veterans days.

"We've had a good response," Faletto said.
