KOOTENAI NEWS by Mrs. D.T. Reynolds

The Happy Ladies Birthday Club will meet at Mrs. George Agar’s, with hostesses Mrs. Hilma Johnson, Mrs. Fred Wood and Mrs. C.R. Agar.

A grass fire Saturday at the Art Rosholt Jr. home was put out by neighborhood children with no damage. If it hadn’t been discovered in time, they would have had a nice fat roasted pig.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cochrane, long time Kootenai residents, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Sunday. They were married at Hope in 1916 and lived at Trestle Creek. In 1919 they moved to a farm north of Kootenai. They built a combination residence and chicken hatchery on the Hope-Clark Fork highway in 1946. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Robinson of Sagle helped them celebrate, taking them to dinner at the Travlers.

Nov. 10, 1920 – HIGH SCHOOL NOTES

Sandpoint high school carried off the honors 77 to 0 at the football game against Spirit Lake.

New suits in the high school colors have been ordered for the boys’ basket ball team. They will present a very pleasing appearance on the floor.

SITE FOR MAMMOTH PAPER MILL SOUGHT

An eastern syndicate seeking a site for a paper mill in the Inland Empire was represented by two Spokane men who met today with the Chamber’s Pulp Mill committee. News print supply is largely in the hands of three or four syndicates, and Eastern “independents” joining together to protect future supplies have put up the capital for a mammoth plant, starting with a 200-ton daily capacity and doubling that after a year. The stockholders will be in the area within a few days after receipt of the final reports on this area.

OPENS STORE IN SANDPOINT

C.E. Jacobson, former Dover merchant, on Wednesday opened “Peg’s Cash and Carry” store in the Allen building on First avenue and Church (NW corner). The stock includes a full line of groceries, partial dry goods and furnishings and school supplies. Mr. Jacobson brings a very creditable business venture as an addition to the city’s list of mercantile establishments.
