Mayor declares Friday 'Bulldog Red Day'

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint High School football team is heading to the 4A state semifinals this Friday in Rexburg, Idaho.

To celebrate the Bulldogs' successful season and championship run, Mayor Shelby Rognstad has proclaimed Friday, Nov. 13, as “Bulldog Red Day” in recognition. He encourages all community members to wear red in support of the Bulldogs.

A member of the SHS Football Foundation, Carolyn McCorkle, reached out to the mayor this week to request special recognition of the team and the year they are having despite the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bulldogs came out in August excited to get the season started, playing their first game on the new turf at War Memorial Field and have persevered through a number of challenges over these past few months.

Parents and local businesses have demonstrated incredible support to the Bulldog team by providing meals after every practice.

“I appreciate the hard work and dedication of our young athletes," Rognstad said in a press release. "I also appreciate the way they have been supported by family, friends and the community. This proclamation is an invitation to the community to join together in support and celebration of our student athletes by painting the town red on Friday."

Kickoff for Friday's game against No. 1 Skyline is set for 6 p.m. PST at Madison High School.
