Mark Eugene Dunkel, 67, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020, in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Private family services have been held at the Pack River Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held in June.
Mark was born on June 19, 1953, in Coronado, California, to Lloyd and Wilma Dunkel. He graduated from Coast Joint Union High School in 1971.
Mark arrived in Sandpoint in 1974, on his way to Alaska, and never left. He immediately began logging, first with horses and then with machinery. In the beginning of his logging career, he worked closely with Jerry Everhart and WI Forest Products, as Dunkel Logging.
Mark married Arlana Healea on March 8, 1990, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In 2003, he purchased the Samuels Store and Blue Heron Café.
He loved logging and playing music. He also enjoyed a good game of golf.
Mark is survived by his wife, Arlana Dunkel of Sandpoint; son Mose (Janice) Dunkel of Sandpoint; two daughters, Amoreena (Blair) Burgeren of Olympia, Washington, and Cecily Johnson of Talent, Oregon; five stepchildren, Arla Markael, Angela Heigis, Nathanel Heigis, Jered Heigis, and Bethany Heigis (James Martinez), all from Sandpoint; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger (Debbie) Dunkel of Sandpoint; and a nephew, Chad Dunkel (Kristen Oliver) of Moscow.
