Turkey Trot goes virtual
SANDPOINT — Like many other fun runs and walks, the community's annual Turkey Trot is going virtual.
A partnership between Litehouse YMCA and Sandpoint Parks and Recreation, the run raises funds and donations for the Bonner Community Food Bank.
"We’ve jointly decided to hit the pause button this year due to COVID-19 but encourage our faithful following and invite first-timers to get outside early on Thursday for a run, walk, hike, or bike, properly distanced, with friends and family," Parks and Recreation Director Kim Woodruff said. "If you wear a costume that brings smiles to others you get extra credit."
Instead, Woodruff said Litehouse YMCA and city officials suggest a donation of cash or groceries to the food bank during this time of great need.
"If you have a streak going for the Turkey Trot, the “on you honor” this year counts … and you can justify an extra piece of pie," Woodruff said.
