John Fernley Shockey, 75

John Fernley Shockey, 75, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 1, 2020, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

John was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, on May 23, 1945, the son of Howard and Jayne Shockey. John was the eldest of four children: Jim, Connie and Deborah. Later John graduated from North Union High School, class of 1963. In 1964, the family moved to California and John started his college education at Santa Ana College prior to being drafted into the United States Army and serving a tour of duty in Vietnam from September 26, 1966 through August 1968.

After completing his military duty and fast forwarding a few years, John met the "Lady of his Life" Nancy. They were married in 1971. In 1980, John and Nancy moved to Sandpoint and opened the Sagle Valley General Store. In 2000, John sold the store and began working at the State Liquor Dispensary in Sandpoint. He retired in 2017.

John is acknowledged as an avid fisherman, hunter and supportive of many organized sportsman groups. John and Nancy are blessed to have two great sons and eight grandchildren. Michael is the oldest son and has five children, Kayla, Taite, Sven, Kat, Keifer. Steven and Jeanette Shockey have three children, Logan, Blake, and Abby.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will take place at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery.
