Kellogg downs Priest River volleyball in straight sets

PRIEST RIVER — Spartan volleyball was unable to knock off Kellogg on Tuesday night, falling in three sets, 25-10, 25-17, 25-13.
Coming in, Priest River knew they were facing a daunting task against a Kellogg squad that is undefeated in Intermountain League play.
In their first meeting this season, head coach Meagan Mize said the Wildcats beat them pretty handily, so the goal Tuesday was to make Kellogg beat them, play hard and have fun. She felt her team did that perfectly.
"I'm proud of the girls performance tonight," she said. "We played really strong against them. The girls kept a pretty positive attitude, had a good time and made a lot of awesome plays. Kellogg earned pretty much every point they scored on us."
Prior to the match, the Spartans honored their two varsity seniors — Josie Booth and Kylee Lederle. Booth led the team with five kills and Lederle added one. Freshman Allyson Barton had five blocks and four kills.
The Spartans (1-10, 0-7 IML) head to Bonners Ferry at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Earlier this season, Priest River nearly defeated the Badgers in five sets.
"I'm really hoping that we can come up with a win," Mize said about Thursday's match.
Priest River also heads to Genesis Prep at 4 p.m. Saturday and will likely play Bonners Ferry in the district tournament loser-out game at 6 p.m. Monday.
