On protectionism and nationalism

I love this world, this beautiful hunk of rock set in a palace of stars. Why do we feel that we have the right to mistreat it so, this home that gives us everything? Does it not feed us, water us, give us the stuff of shelters and warmth and wealth. We have accumulated great power from our machinary and knowledge extracted from the earth. Is it then ours to abuse? We can destroy each other, much of life, much of the planet. We are good at that. Is that a right, a privilege, or are we abusing a gift and the giver? How easy it is to continue down this bleak path of destruction. How hard, but how necessary to angle off that road towards hope and a constructive parlance with this our only and most lovely home.
