Oct. 20, 1970 – FIFTY CONFIRMED

Fifty members from Sandpoint and Clark Fork were confirmed Oct. 10 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church by His Excellency Bishop Treinen with Fr. Dulberg assisting. A bishop’s reception was held afterwards for the confirmands and their sponsors with Mrs. Bodene Kemmis as chairman, assisted by Mrs. Blanche Thurlow, Mrs. William O’Brien, Mrs. Everett Hofmeister and Mrs. Robert Klatt.

HORSE FANCIERS ‘CHARGE’ CITY HALL

Fifty-five Sandpoint horse fanciers “charged” city hall Monday, protesting recent demands that Sandpoint enforce a 20-year-old-but-never-enforced ordinance prohibiting the keeping of horses, cows or bulls within city limits. Many of them addressed Mayor Gray and the council about the benefits of horses and why animals should be allowed in the city under controlled conditions. The mayor said he and the council will review the present ordinance and discuss with the city attorney revising it or preparing a new law.

NOV. WEDDING FOR HOLLY REMMERS

Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Remmers of Sandpoint announce the engagement of their daughter, Holly Janene, to Richard R. Woods Jr., son of Mrs. Ruby L. Woods of Portland, and Richard R. Woods, Sr., Eugene, Ore. Holly is an executive secretary for the Arthur Young Co., Portland. Mr. Woods, who just finished four years in the Air Force, is attending community college in Eugene. A Nov. 28 wedding is planned in Sandpoint

Oct. 20, 1920 – PERMANENT MISSIONARY

Bishop Tourett of Boise and Rev. Hyatt, Coeur d’Alene, Episcopal clergymen, were here last week to ascertain the condition of the local parish, inspect St. Agnes Guild hall, and arrange for bi-weekly services at the local mission, the first one scheduled for Oct. 24, with Rev. Hyatt occupying the pulpit. Bishop Tourett plans for a permanent missionary in Sandpoint as soon as possible and eventually to build an Episcopal church here.

HERO’S BODY EN ROUTE HOME

The body of William D. Martin, first Bonner county boy to fall in action and for whom the local American Legion post is named, is en route home for burial on American soil. Martin was killed by a shell fragment from a German 77 while Battery C was in position at Epieds during the Marne offensive. Information is lacking as to whether the body will be brought here or to Spokane, where the hero’s parents have moved.

MASKED MEN TAKE $500 AT LUMBER CAMP

Three masked robbers held up fourteen men at Beardmore camp No. 3 on Pack river at 7:30 last night, taking a total of $500. One of the masked men had an automatic and the other two had cylinder guns. About a month ago a similar hold-up occurred at Humbird camp No. 6 where $2000 was realized by masked highwaymen.
