Schweitzer donates $5,000 to food bank

SANDPOINT — It’s been a challenging year for many non-profits who have had to cancel fundraising efforts due to concerns over COVID-19, but Schweitzer Mountain Resort’s commitment to the Bonner Community Food Bank was able to continue thanks to one special passholder.

“Every spring we host a Passholder Appreciation Party with a silent auction that raises money for the food bank,” said Schweitzer Marketing Manager Dig Chrismer. “This year, with our season ending so abruptly, we weren’t able to hold that event as planned.”

But that, she said, wasn't the end of the matter.

“One of the highlights of the fundraiser has been the ‘Name a Run’ promotion where the highest bidder is able to rename a run of their choice for the following season,” adds Chrismer. “We had a passholder reach out to us wanting to know if that was still possible. We explained the situation and they generously offered to donate $5,000 for the naming rights. With everything that our community has been going through, it was an incredible gesture and we are very happy to make this donation on their behalf to the food bank.”

Being able to help the food bank made everyone's day, Chrismer said.

“We are acutely aware that the Bonner Community Food Bank serves a critical role for people who need a helping hand and Schweitzer is grateful for the opportunity to make this donation,” she said. “We really do have the best passholders.”
