SANDPOINT — The first 65 minutes of Thursday's game between Sandpoint girls soccer and Coeur d'Alene were rather uneventful. The final 15 were quite the opposite.

In a three-minute span, all three goals in the game were scored and the Vikings prevailed 2-1.

Sandpoint was without starting goalkeeper Hattie Larson, who is injured with a dislocated finger. Kameryn Nadeja started her first varsity game in net for the Bulldogs and made 10 saves. But in the 73rd, Nadeja came out of the box to challenge a Coeur d'Alene forward that was on a breakaway and the two collided. Nadeja had to be carted off the field with an apparent head injury.

Kelsey Cessna played goalie for the Bulldogs the rest of the way.

"I think she did great stepping up for us in her first varsity game," assistant coach Alan Brinkmeier said about Nadeja's performance. "It was kind of unexpected. She got told yesterday that she was going to play on varsity so she stepped up, wasn't afraid to come out on the ball and made some good saves. Those goals were just unlikely, they weren't her fault."

Coeur d'Alene broke the scoreless tie in the 66th minute when Ellie Morrisroe sent a ball over the head of Nadeja and into the net. A minute later, Sandpoint responded when Jordie Breeden fired a shot from about 20 yards out into the Vikings net.

Morrisoe scored again in the 68th minute on a perfect cross to put the Vikings ahead for good.

"It just seemed like we let down a little bit," Brinkmeier said.

Coeur d'Alene outshot Sandpoint 14-12. For the second game in the row, the Bulldogs struggled getting any dangerous looks on net.

"We couldn't find our through balls," Brinkmeier said. "We've been working on them all week in practice, our off-the-ball runs, timing our runs, making sure those through balls make contact ... but we didn't always act like we hoped."

The Bulldogs (2-2, 1-2 IEL) host rival Lakeland 6 p.m. Wednesday at War Memorial Field for senior night.
