Sept. 8, 1970 – McBURNEY SELLS BUSINESS

The sale of William McBurney’s insurance business at (409) Cedar St., to Sandpoint Realty Co., was announced by McBurney, Leonard Mitchell and Dale Lee. McBurney’s real estate business was not sold and he is the real estate agent of record for the William Main Agency office recently opened in the Riverside building. McBurney, a WWII veteran, bought the old Mark Hunt agency from Hunt’s widow 18 years ago, then located in the Ponderay Hotel (4th & Cedar).

SPENCERS TO RESIDE IN MOSCOW

Joan Edith Donnerberg and Vernon Ray Spencer, both of Cocolalla, were united in marriage July 5 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence J. Donnerberg and Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Spencer, all of Cocolalla, are parents of the couple. A reception was held in the Donnerberg home. The newlyweds will reside in Moscow where both will attend the U of Idaho.

ROSS HALL'S LOST CAMERA RETURNED

Ross Hall lost an expensive camera last month, but hadn't yet reported it lost. He received a hint when Dr. C.C. Wendle promised him a camera if he would help judge prints at the Bonner County Fair. Hall should have guessed it was his own camera. His grandson had left it under the seat of Wendle's four-wheel drive.

Sept. 8, 1920 – ATTEND HAT CLASSES

Twenty-seven farm bureau women met at the Farmers union hall on Lake st. Friday, Saturday and Monday mornings for instructions in hat making from Miss Wilhelmina Jacobson of the university extension dept. and Miss Mary Lucille Lee, home demonstration agent. All the women made hats for themselves. Farm bureau women from Selle, Colburn, Kootenai, Ponderay and Dover were in the local class, and Miss Jacobson taught afternoon classes for 25 at Sagle.

CIVIC CLUB AWARDS RESIDENCE PRIZES

The Civic club yesterday awarded prizes for homes and for the best young person’s garden. For greatest improvement in residential property: first prize, $20 to Ed and Leo Bridge, 617 N Third; 2nd prize, $10 to Mr. & Mrs. Peter Johnson, 202 S. First (Note: in 2020, the site of Coldwell Banker Realty). Finest rental grounds: first prize, $5 to Mr. & Mrs. J.M. Montgomery, 412 S. Second; 2nd prize, $5 to Mr. & Mrs. E.J. Merton, 709 Sixth; 3rd prize, $5 to Mr. & Mrs. Chas Cross, Superior. Finest grounds of owners: first prize, $7 to Mr. & Mrs. L.D. Farmin, 519 N Second; 2nd prize, $5 to Mr. & Mrs. C.A. Olson, 401 Church; 3rd, $3 to Dr. & Mrs. O.F. Page, 514 N Second. Best garden of a boy or girl under 16 years: $10 to Rex & Chud Wendle, garden on Huron. The judges noted, “On certain streets practically every home is well kept, including First avenue, Huron, Euclid, and the north end of Sixth avenue.”
