Unless we fight real intolerance, we'll never be free

| September 8, 2020 1:00 AM

Tolerance: The capacity for or practice of recognizing and respecting the opinions, practices or behavior of others. Nowhere in the aforementioned do I see that the definition of tolerance is only for one ideology or another.

Simply by having a different viewpoint does not make one intolerant. It seems in this day of “cancel culture,” we all must only say and do certain things in order to be tolerant. If we say “all lives matter,” we are racist. If we don’t shame our children to take a knee and admit they are racist, because of their skin color, we are racist and intolerant. If you feel that there is something racist in your past, present or future then apologize away. That is your right and you shouldn’t be judged by it. That is tolerance.

To wear and mask or not? We need to understand that there is science in both directions, as well as, constitutional rights, which allow us to choose what is best for ourselves — yes, tolerance. Tolerance is not saying you will kill many by not wearing a mask, just as one has no right to criticize those who choose to protect themselves based on their own health.

Voting for change is simply not acceptable. We have to hate and ruin others based on their ideology – yes, intolerance. Unless we fight against real intolerance, we will no longer be a free country of various backgrounds and beliefs working together to make this country the best in the world.
