September brings return of favorite WBL programs

| September 9, 2020 1:00 AM

September brings back favorite programs and new opportunities to the West Bonner Libraries.

"No matter what the school year looks like, reliable learning resources are more important than ever," WBL Director Katie Crill said.

Beginning today, Sept. 9, library staff will be on hand at the Priest River Library from 2-4 p.m. every Wednesday for "Digital Drop In," designed to help patrons learn to use online resources available through the library. It's a chance to learn how to navigate the LiLI (Libraries Linking Idaho) databases, Crill said. LiLI.org offers Idahoans free access to academic research and learning databases that include thousands of full text magazine articles and reference materials for all ages.

For those looking to start a new career, obtain their GED or prepare for college, Learning Express Library is a comprehensive collection of test preparation tools, skill-building materials, and career resources. Learning Express School Center helps students in elementary, middle, and high school prepare for tests, get help with assignments, and boost their skills in important subjects. In addition to access to the collections of 29 libraries via a weekly courier service, the Cooperative Information Network provides CIN patrons with free access to Overdrive, downloadable eBooks and audiobooks. Staff will guide you through installation of the Libby app, downloading content, and will offer tips on searching the CIN catalog, placing holds and managing accounts.

Kids’ Krafternoon will return on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. with fun projects for kids grades K-4. For those fifth grade and up, Artists @ the Library has a new name and has been switched up to include a wider range of activities. Make It @ the Library begins Thursday, Sept. 17. Registration is required as seating will be limited due to social distancing protocols.

New for teens is Teen Takeaway. Each month teens 13 and up can stop by the Priest River or Blanchard libraries and pick up a fun craft kit to take home.

On Saturday, September 12 Live & Learn will kick off with basketmaker Olivia Gennasi, who will teach participants to weave a flat reed basket. There is a $10 materials fee and registration is required. This class will run from 10am to 2pm.

On Saturday, September 19 at 11am create tie dye face coverings using tie dye color cords, an alternative to messy dye baths. Each participant will be able to dye two triple layer cotton masks with an assortment of colors. The cost for materials is $5 and registration is required. This class will be repeated in Blanchard on October 24.

Attendance at library activities is limited to comply with social distancing protocols. Whenever possible, informational programs will be made available online. Videos are posted on the library’s Facebook page and on YouTube.
