First Presbyterian Church of Sandpoint has been awarded a $5,000 matching grant from Idaho Heritage Trust.

To receive the matching grant, First Presbyterian, 417 N. Fourth Ave., is holding a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $5,000.

Work is scheduled to begin this fall on needed repairs and replacement of damaged soffits, fascia boards and corbels surrounding the exterior of the original roof structure, built in 1906.

“We are grateful for the Heritage Trust’s vision of preserving the history of small rural communities for future Idahoans to enjoy,” church officials said in announcing the matching grant.

Contributions to the fundraising campaign can be sent to First Presbyterian Church with memo “Heritage Project.”

Todd Vorhies and the Vorhies Built team will be doing the work on the project. Reviewing the updates will be Reid Weber from Boden Architecture.

Idaho Heritage Trust was established in 1989 as a lasting legacy of the Idaho Centennial Commission and signed into law by Governor Cecil Andrus. The mission of Idaho Heritage Trust is to preserve the historic building and artifacts of Idaho for the state’s bicentennial in 2090 through a program of grants and technical assistance.

In the past, Idaho Heritage Trust has awarded grants to the Panida Theater, Bonner County Historical Museum, Bonner County Head Start, and Lakeview Pioneer Cemetery, to name a few.
