SANDPOINT — Sandpoint and Lewiston went back and forth Saturday at Pine Street Field, but in the end the Bengals prevailed 3-2.

The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 at the half. In the 48th minute, junior Piper Frank got Sandpoint on the scoreboard and knotted the game at 1-1. However, less than a minute later Lewiston scored to take the momentum away from the Bulldogs.

Sandpoint tied the game again in the 56th minute when junior Erin Eddy crossed the ball into the box and senior Jordie Breeden finished it.

With the score at 2-2, both teams pushed to find the back of the net and grab the victory. With just over 10 minutes left, the Bengals broke through.

Sandpoint didn't give up though and kept pressuring the Lewiston defense. The Bulldogs had a couple corners down the stretch and a shot by junior forward Kylie Williams sailed just over the top of the net as the whistle blew to end the match.

Sandpoint battled in the second half, but head coach Conor Baranski said his team needs to play better.

"That's easily the worst game of soccer we've played all year," he said. "The organization was poor and I thought the effort in the first half was lacking."

Baranski said the Bulldogs struggled solving problems Lewiston presented them and they just weren't on the same page.

"We would have lost 5-2 or more if we didn't have Hattie Larson in net," he said.

Despite the loss, Baranski was proud of the resilience his team showed in the final 40 minutes.

"I was impressed with my teams ability to come out in the second half, even though we were 1-0 down, and react positively," he said.

Sandpoint outshot the Bengals 26-20 and Larson made 13 saves in net.

The Bulldogs (4-3) head to Coeur d'Alene at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
