SCOUTS CLEAN UP

Mrs. Nadine Franklin took a Webelo Scout group to Sandy Point campground for their annual cleanup job. The scouts periodically clean the area, making a grand effort annually. Helping were scouts Jim Kedish, Doug Reed, David Young, Tom Austin, Philip McGuire, David Kost, Leonard Mathia, Doug Penrod, Dan Ayers, Paul Eddy and Bud Ayers.

NEWS-BULLETIN NOW DELIVERED

The Sandpoint News-Bulletin is now delivered by newsboy carrier in the Sandpoint city limits. Service began Wednesday evening, with 16 newsboys supervised by Jack Russell, circulation manager. City subscribers will get their papers almost 24 hours earlier than the old system by postal carrier.

DEL’S FABRIC TO MOVE

Del’s Fabric Store, 310 N. First Ave., will move after business hours Saturday and reopen across the street Monday. Mrs. Paul Delamarter, who operates the store, took new quarters at 309 N. First [Note: The Bernd Building - in 2021, site of Meadowbrook Home Furnishing], former site of the Green Pebble, which closed last week. The space vacated by Del’s will be incorporated into the Pend Oreille Sport Shop.

April 15, 1921 – CAMPAIGN CONCLUDED

Wagons have been busy hauling away rubbish piled up during cleanup week, ended Sunday. The Third avenue dump has been open and received most of the stuff, placed under direction of the street commissioner, to permit a fill which will assist future opening of the thoroughfare. The real cleanup work was done last week, but there is no slacking, and alterations and painting are still going strong.

FIRE AT ALLISON GARAGE

Damage which will probably exceed $2000 was caused early Tuesday at the Allison garage on N. Third (west side) across from the Humbird store when fire nearly consumed the rear of the two-story building, damaging two cars and ruining furniture in the apartment above. Although the apartment was unoccupied for some time, neighbors say that in the last month, parties have surreptitiously entered and staged late night entertainments. It is thought the fire may have had its origin in one of these events.

VISITS BROTHER IN SPOKANE HOSPITAL

Mrs. Andrew [Ellen] Bergstrom visited her brother, Emil Anderson, at Sacred Heart hospital where he had two pieces of shrapnel removed from a wound in the shoulder, sustained in the fall of 1918 during the Argonne drive. Since being discharged, he has had two operations on the shoulder, his condition this time accompanied by fever and general failing.
