April 20, 1971 – SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
The drill team’s Variety Show was a huge success, said adviser Miss Marianne Brown. Hopefully some of the money can be used for trips to parades in Wenatchee and Spokane.
The Sophomore Class is selling candy and pickles after school.

BONNER GENERAL OPENS ICU
Bonner General Hospital opened its new intensive coronary care unit this week. The two-patient unit is in a special room equipped with around-the-clock monitoring equipment linked to the central nursing station. Nurse Sallie Shatz will supervise the unit.

KING-LEAVERTON ENGAGEMENT TOLD
Mr. and Mrs. James C. King, Sr., Caldwell, Ida., announce the engagement of their daughter, Diane Ruth, to Jack Leaverton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Leaverton, Sandpoint. The bride-elect is a sophomore at the U of I and a member of Alpha Chi Omega. Her fiance, a U of I graduate and member of Alpha Tau Omega, is employed by Reilly Title Co., Sandpoint. A June 12 wedding is planned.

COUNCIL OKAYS CHILDRENS PARK
The City Council unanimously approved a Junior Federated Women’s Club proposal to develop the triangular area bounded by Main, Alder, Florence and Forest into a children’s playground park. [Note: in 2021, the site of Sandpoint Senior Center].

April 20, 1921 – LOCAL BRIEFS
Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Crowell and family were in the city Saturday from their farm west of town. They are conducting a dairy and hay farm in a modest way.
Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Reeves, 514 Oak street, are delighted over the arrival of a girl baby at their home.
W.H. McCann, the wood dealer living near town, was seen on the streets Saturday. Last winter he delivered 400 cords of wood to Sandpoint people.
Carl Gerke and Clair LeFevre were entertained by friends last Friday, in honor of their birthdays.

NEW THEATER SEATS ARRIVE
The new cushion seats for the Gem theater, ordered in February, have arrived and will be set in place as soon as the necessary work can be done. There are 300 seats, representing an investment of over $3000. They will bring the Gem up to the standard of the best houses in cities three to four times the size of Sandpoint.

NEWS FROM CLARKSFORK
Friday being Arbor day, the school grounds were cleaned up by the pupils.
April showers somewhat retarded the progress of the farmers’ seeding.
A number of young people are up on the pine cone job. It is freely wagered that the majority will return in a week. We wish you every joy as you tramp over the big hills planting little trees.
