COEUR d'ALENE — Sandpoint's Zander Moore and Nikolai Braedt received awards during the North Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame banquet on Saturday at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.

Braedt won the boys cross country award. Braedt posted the fastest time of all North Idaho runners at the state cross country meet this past fall. He placed 11th at the state 4A meet and won his third straight 4A Region 1 individual title.

Moore earned a share of the boys soccer award, along with Aidan O'Halloran from Post Falls. Moore was named MVP of the 4A Inland Empire League for his efforts on the pitch this fall. Moore scored 10 goals to help the Bulldogs get back to state for the first time since 2017. The Idaho High School Soccer Coaches Association also gave Moore a spot on the 4A all-state first team.

Sixteen other local athletes and two teams (Sandpoint girls and boys swimming) were also named finalists for awards.

Sandpoint's Hattie Larson, Chris Koch, Jett Lucas, Gabby Hicks, Kate Bokowy, Kaya Wright, Caleb Norling, Hayden Leavitt, Parker Pettit, Tag Benefield, Wes Benefield, Kaylee Banks and Colin Roos; Priest River's Trentyn Kreager and Jordan Nortz; and Clark Fork's Paige Valliere were all finalists.

Each award finalist received a certificate and the winners also got a plaque.

Due to the spring 2020 season being canceled, only 2020 fall and 2020-21 winter sports were honored with awards this year.

The North Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame also presented a new award at Saturday's banquet — the Hagadone High Character Award. The award is given to a male and female athlete at each school and is named after Duane Hagadone, who founded the North Idaho Hall of Fame 58 years ago. It recognizes student-athletes who excel in the classroom and as a teammate; have outstanding work ethic and integrity, display sportsmanship and true character in all walks of life, and are just an all-around good individual.

The new award for high school athletes was started in part because of the lack of spring sports in 2020.

Sandpoint's Hattie Larson, Camille Neuder and Darren Bailey; Clark Fork's Paige Valliere and Wesley Simko; and Priest River's Makia Fitzmorris and Travis Mathews were all given the Hagadone High Character Award.
