STEP gymnasts capture glory at state championships

Gymnasts from the S.T.E.P. Training Center in Kootenai recently competed in the 2021 Idaho Xcel State Gymnastics Championships and took home plenty of honors. The event was held on March 20 and 21 in Pocatello.

The Bronze level team wrapped up their season by claiming first place. Aleigha Martin, Kaylynn Wilcox and Elsie Peak all earned individual state champion titles in their age groups.

Other members on the state-winning S.T.E.P. Bronze team were: Jaylee Petersen, Abigail Garton, Mona Villelli, Emma Kohal, Hannah Laude, Kylie Weisz, Carlee Klippel, Aliyah Koberstein and Lucy Thayer.

The Silver team took fourth at state after securing an undefeated season in their region. Eden Murphy was crowned the state uneven bar champion, scoring a 9.6 in the Jr. D division. Madalynn Beggerly won the state floor title by scoring a 9.6 in the Sr. A division.

Other members on the Silver team were: Alyssa Gardner, Ryan Ely, Lilyana Therrien, Taylor Maltby and Azelynn Petersen.

The Gold team shined on the uneven bars, capturing second place. Khloe Brady won the state floor title in the Jr. B division with a 9.45. Nevaeh Therrien, Reece Liermann, Alora Weisz and Lydia Babcock also competed for the Gold team.
