'The Mermaid of Lake Cocolalla'

| August 7, 2021 1:00 AM

The story is of a young boy and his sister who befriend a lonely mermaid as they stay the summer with their grandparents at Lake Cocolalla. It is a tale of friendship, caring and the bond of family.

Local artist turned writer, Connie Scherr has released her children’s book “The Mermaid of Lake Cocolalla.”

Scherr had been telling this story to her kids and grandkids for years and now is the time to share the story and her watercolors with others.

Since its release, Schurr said family members enjoy reading the book and trying to see if they have been painted in the book.

“For the past six years I’ve wanted to write a book. This past year gave me the time to do so,” said Scherr.

“The Mermaid of Cocolalla” can be bought at Carousel Emporium in the children’s section. There will be a book reading near Creations Boutique and Family Play Area on August 19 at 10:15 a.m.

In addition to the book Connie Scherr is a featured artist in Artist Studio Tour, which takes place in and around Sandpoint, as well as the Festival at Sandpoint poster artist Her art can also be found online conniescherr.com or her studio Scherr Haven Studio.
