DECISION CLEARS WAY FOR BUILDING
Monday’s decision by a Boise Federal Judge cleared the way for Hawaiian Enterprises and the Sandpoint Land Development Co., Inc. to proceed with the $3.9 million Condo del Sol development at Sandpoint’s south entrance. The judge’s order, which followed a lawsuit brought by the federal government for the Corps of Engineers, leaves in contention a seawall built this spring to stabilize the shoreline and a 32-foot fill area behind the seawall. But the larger share of the lakeshore tract is now regarded as free of any Army Corps strings and work can proceed. William W. Derr, Inc. of Clark Fork had equipment on the job Tuesday excavating for footings of the first buildings. As much as possible, local construction people and business firms will be supplying labor and materials.

MORE MEN NEEDED TO FIGHT FIRES
There are many forest fires throughout the Northwest these hot summer days. There are a number raging in the Sandpoint area right now, but a scarcity of men for fire fighting. Last night the Humbird mill had to close in order to get enough men to fight a fire at Samuels. Any man in the vicinity available for this purpose will perform a real service if he will leave his name with the Pend d’Oreille Timber Protective association.
