Aug. 12, 1971 – NEWS FROM SAGLE
Guests at the barbecue for Crystal Moline’s 17th birthday were the Larry Gerens family, Kay Martin, John Churchill, Gil Newton and Diane Gunter.
EOCA Rod Moline of Sagle, who is in the Navy, was recently stationed in Zulu, Hawaii. He will be there a few months and is now driving heavy trucks.

GRUNERS LEAVING FOR WEST AFRICA
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gruner and their children leave soon for West Africa where he will teach math and science at Ivory Coast Academy, a school for missionaries stationed there. The Gruners, who are members of Calvary Baptist Church, lived on a ranch near Sandpoint while he worked on his secondary teaching credentials at the U of I. Mrs. Gruner, a registered nurse, taught a coronary care nursing class to a group of RNs here in early1970.

SAGLE MOOSE ARE LITTLE LEAGUE CHAMPS
Jim Reed’s Sagle Moose defeated Gary Reasor’s second place Coyotes 16-6 to carry home the Little League championship honors for the second year in a row. Moose team members are Steve Ross, Pat Carson, Chris Sundquist, Dale Reed, Bill Churchill, Terry Porath, Dan Porath, Alan Reed, Rich Turnbull, Jason Lyons and Steve Campbell. Coyotes team members are Randy Reasor, Larry Mozell, Jeff Erickson, Jimmy Reasor, Tracy Jones, Jay Lane, Bernie Beyer, Mark Lane, Bob Schoonover, John Halvro, Joe Ihly, John Hayes and Doug Watts.

Pend d’Oreille Review
Aug. 12, 1921 – CITY BREVITIES
The first and only real rain of the summer swept over the Pend d’Oreille valley Monday, although the downpour lasted but a few minutes. It was borne by a breeze which drove the water in sheets, cooling the air after an oppressively hot day. The storm passed rapidly, leaving clear weather in its wake.

NEWS FROM MORTON
The mail was not delivered at Morton Sunday morning for the first time in 14 years, as the Johnson family spent the day in Spokane.
We received the long looked for rain Monday – it will help the crops a great deal.
There will be a dance at the Long schoolhouse Saturday. Come and have a good time.

BUNGALOW-PACK RIVER VALLEY NEWS
It looked Monday as though we were to get a much needed rain, but wind blew all rain clouds away, and we are still watchful for rain.
We have been having some eastern weather of late, Monday was 102 in the shade.

VIOLATES FIRE LAW
Talache neighborhood rancher A. Keane was tried on a charge of allowing a woods fire to burn without trying to check it. He pleaded guilty and was fined $10 and $3 in costs. He stated he was forced to backfire in order to keep a forest fire off his property.
