Clyde Gene Courtney, 84

Clyde Gene Courtney, 84, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at his home in Laclede, Idaho.

A celebration of Gene’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Trinity at the City Beach in Sandpoint.

Gene was born on August 22, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Clyde and Vennetta Courtney. He grew up in Boise, graduating from Boise High School in 1954 where he excelled in ski racing and football. He then served his country in the United States Army. He attended Boise Junior College and worked as a surveyor in McCall.

Gene married Sandra Lee Ashbaugh on November 25, 1961, at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Boise. He worked as a civil engineer on the Libby, Mont., dam and other large projects throughout the country. He and Sandy enjoyed living on their boat in San Francisco Bay Area.

Gene was a member of the Libby Loggers and Libby JCs. He also served on the Laclede Water Board. His first passion was boating and spending time on the water with his family. He was a masterful woodworker and loved working with his hands.

He is survived by his companion, Ilene Bell of Laclede; four children, Kris Courtney and husband Manuel Flores of Concord, California, Mike (Kari) Courtney of Newman, California, Nicole (Brent) Irwin of Meridian, Idaho, and Elyse (John) Dinsenbacher of Frisco, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Heather, Alex, Courtney, Megan, Sami, and Chloe; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sandy Courtney, in 2010.
