Williams' goal pushes SHS girls soccer past Lake City

COEUR d'ALENE — A goal by senior Kylie Williams in the first half was just enough for Sandpoint girls soccer to secure a 1-0 season-opening Inland Empire League win at Lake City on Friday.
"That's a huge win for us," head coach Conor Baranski said. "That's just a really cool way for us to start off our season."
Baranski said the Timberwolves had plenty of opportunities to score, but the Bulldogs' backline came up huge.
"Our whole defensive line was absolutely massive," he said. "It was not pretty, it was not as beautifully organized as I'd like it to be, but they put their bodies on the line and worked their butts off to recover when they got beat."
Baranski said the effort, determination and enthusiasm his team displayed throughout the game was amazing to watch.
"We had to work really, really hard for that and it could of easily been a lot more goals for them and a few more goals for us," he said.
Sophomore Aliya Strock did a fantastic job defending Lake City's best player, Baranski said. Junior Kameryn Nadeja and Lilliana Brinkmeier split time at goalkeeper. Baranski said they both made great saves and earned the shutout.
"They were both absolutely outstanding," he said.
Piper Frank tallied the assist on the game-winning goal.
The Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0 IEL) host Lewiston at noon next Saturday at War Memorial Field.
