Sam McEwan, 72

Sam McEwan, 72, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021, in Sandpoint, Idaho surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 202,1 at the Lakeview Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.

Sam was born on April 14, 1949, in Sandpoint to Curt and Frances McEwan. He grew up attending local grade schools, and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1967. He continued on and earned his associates degree from North Idaho College and his bachelor degree from the University of Idaho.

Sam started working for Pack River Lumber Company during the summers while in school, and then went full time after college until they closed down. He then spent time working with his dad in the woods logging. Sam loved the woods, logging and offering a helping hand to whoever was in need. He was happiest on his Cat L.R.O.E. in the woods at Priest Lake and around family. Out of everything in his life his favorite thing was being a papa to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Bonnie McEwan of Sandpoint; two daughters, Cyrena (Mark) Hewitt of Sandpoint, and Vana Balbin of Sandpoint; five grandchildren, Mike, McKenzie, Emma, Audrey, and Ashlyn; three great-grandchildren, Artemis, Remington, and Haevyn; brother, Dick (Vicki) McEwan of St. Maries; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best friend since the first grade, Tom.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Curt and Frances; and by his two cousins who were like brothers to him, Tom and Steve Anselmo.
