Aug. 29, 1971 – AMTRACK TURBOTRAIN

Amtrack’s (sic) Turbotrain, which has a top speed of 170 miles an hour, will stop briefly in Sandpoint Monday but its arrival time is uncertain. The supertrain is on an expedition tour of the Amtrack system. Local residents wishing to see the modern train as it passes through may learn its arrival time by contacting the local Burlington Northern office.

OBSERVED SILVER ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Mosher were honored with a reception Aug. 22, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fran Hiatt, Sr. on the Bonners Ferry highway for their 25th wedding anniversary. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Don Hiatt and Mrs. William Hiatt. The Moshers were married in Sandpoint, and have resided here since. He is employed by Pack River Lumber Co. at Dover and Mrs. Mosher works in the Sandpoint Library.

BILL FOURNIER IS NEW BROKER

Bill Fournier of United Farm Agency and Farmers Insurance Group, successfully completed his broker’s exam and is appointed a real estate broker by the Idaho Real Estate Commission. Born and raised in Sandpoint, Fournier resides with his wife and three sons in Kootenai. He served three years in the military and is secretary of the Sandpoint Jaycees, a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1376 and the Bonner County Sportsman’s Association and is a Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce director.

A daughter [Ardis] was born to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Keyes at Mrs. Lancaster’s maternity home [424 Superior Street] in this city, Saturday, Aug. 20.

SENDS HONEY EXHIBIT TO STATE FAIR

Sires and Sires shipped a ton of honey to be exhibited at Spokane’s Interstate Fair. Mr. Sires brought in two stalks of sweet clover, one measuring 11 ft., the other ten. He has an acre of this clover.

LOCAL BRIEFS

The George Barker home is under quarantine. Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Brower and daughter Doris of Lewiston are Mr. and Mrs. Barker’s guests. Doris Brower caught smallpox, causing the quarantine.

The Civic club’s annual flower show is Sept. 1-3.

Rev. John Willan will preach Saturday in the Oden schoolhouse at 7:45 o’clock, and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited.
