Wampus Cats rout Timberlake C team to grab first win
CLARK FORK — The Clark Fork boys basketball team coasted to its first victory of the season Wednesday night.
The Wampus Cats encountered little resistance in a 65-19 rout of the Timberlake C team.
"The kids were very unselfish, which I was really proud of," head coach Heath Beason said. "There was a lot of moving the ball."
Clark Fork grabbed a 20-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back.
"We pulled back on the full-court press once we got ahead and we started making sure we were in the right place with our offense and defense," Beason said.
Carter Sanroman led the way with 17 points, five assists and three rebounds. Sophomore Ethan Howard was inserted into the starting lineup and finished with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
"I put the grindstone to him and he answered," Beason said about Howard. "He played very well."
Chase Sanroman scored 11 points, Cole Sanroman tallied 7 and Sam Barnett and Nathan Shelton each had 6. Antonio Mayorga added 4 points and Barnett grabbed a team-high five steals.
"We've got some big games coming up so we needed to make sure we were firing on all cylinders and we did that tonight," Beason said.
Clark Fork (1-2) travels to Mullan at 7 p.m. tonight to open North Star League play. It's the first meeting between the teams since last February when the Wampus Cats took down the Tigers on their home court in the district title game.
"Having this win under our belt is a good confidence booster, but we still have a lot to accomplish to get where we want to go," he said.
