SANDPOINT — Not much went right for the Bulldogs on Friday night and it all started with an ice cold start.

Sandpoint girls basketball fell behind 16-0 to Post Falls and could never recover in a 64-17 Inland Empire League loss to the Trojans.

The undefeated Trojans (6-0) have been rolling and the Bulldogs were just their latest victim.

"We ran up against a really good team," head coach Will Love said. "Post Falls has had a heck of a season so far ... and they are just playing at a higher level than we are right now."

A basket was hard to come by for the Bulldogs in the opening quarter and all night. It took them over six minutes to get on the scoreboard. Anna Reinink hit a jumper off an assist from Daylee Driggs with 1:50 left to end the scoreless drought.

Those were the only points by SHS in the first quarter as they trailed 20-2.

Post Falls kept its foot on the gas in the second quarter and took a 34-6 lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs showed signs of life in the second half, scoring 8 points in the third quarter, but the deficit was just too much to overcome.

Despite the loss, Love was pleased with the effort his team put forth in the second half.

"I thought a couple of our seniors really stepped up and competed hard," he said.

The Trojans knocked down nine 3-pointers in the game. Love said the Bulldogs played solid defense at times, but they weren't consistent enough to slow down Post Falls.

Turnovers hurt the Bulldogs all night. They coughed up the ball 31 times.

"When you're turning the ball over that much it can be deflating," Love said.

Driggs and Reinink led the team with 6 points each. Sofia Platte finished with 3 points and seven rebounds and Destiny Lyons converted a basket. Reinink also had five rebounds.

"Sofia did a great job of just bringing energy," Love said, "and getting up and down the court and displaying how we need to play if we want to compete with the 5As."

Sandpoint (2-4, 0-2 IEL) will host its third straight 5A IEL opponent when Lake City comes to Les Rogers Court at 7 p.m. Thursday.
