Clark Fork unable to grab third straight win
COEUR d'ALENE — Clark Fork boys basketball was unable to keep things rolling Monday night, falling 46-38 to the Lake City JV team.
The Wampus Cats weren't themselves against the Timberwolves due to sickness throughout the team, but head coach Heath Beason said his boys gave it everything they had.
"These guys were just barely hanging on," he said. "For the stuff that was stacked against them, they gave it 110 percent so I have to give them credit for that. The effort was there, but their legs were so heavy they just couldn't move."
Despite all that, the Wampus Cats still had a chance to walk away with a win. Clark Fork outscored Lake City 22-21 in the second half, but a 18-point first quarter by the Timberwolves was too much to overcome.
Beason said his team pulled within 3 points in the final two minutes and he rotated players constantly throughout to keep his ailing team as fresh as possible.
Clark Fork was seeking its third straight win.
Sam Barnett led the way with 13 points.
"Sam really tried his hardest to keep things together and he did," Beason said. "I have to give the game ball to Sam because he really stepped up to keep us this close."
Carter Sanroman scored 9 points, Ichiro Matsutaro 7 and Antonio Mayorga 6.
Clark Fork (2-3) hosts the Bonners Ferry JV team at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
