Dec. 23, 1971 – ELKS CHRISTMAS SHOW
The Elks Lodge and the Panida Theatre announce the Annual Kiddie’s Free Christmas Show Friday at the Panida. The feature will be a fine production for kiddies, “80 Steps to Jonah” with Wayne Newton and Keenan Wynn. There will also be several Walt Disney cartoons. All children under 12 will be admitted free. The show will start at 1 p.m. and be over at 3:15 p.m.

Dec. 23, 1921 – CITY BREVITIES
The local postoffice is being deluged with Christmas mail. The outgoing Christmas packages are about the same volume as last year, but there is a large increase in the number of Christmas cards being sent out.
Freezing temperatures and the rambling gale Monday afternoon discouraged ventures into the open air to such an extent that only five women showed up at the city hall for the meeting of the Civic club. As 11 are required for a quorum, there was no meeting.

MORE A.C. WHITE IMPROVEMENTS
A.C. White is planning the erection of a dry kiln and new office building at the A.C. White plant at Laclede. Work upon the improvements will begin this winter.

FRESH SUPPORT FOR NEW STATE PLAN
Speaking at the chamber directors’ meeting, T.J. Humbird, Humbird Lumber co. president, expressed favor with the project to create a new state in the Inland Empire, which was warmly accepted by the directors and taken as indicative of the trend of opinion among corporate lumber interests of the panhandle.
