SOUTHSIDE STUDENTS HOME AGAIN
Southside students went home to their own school last week, 15 months after their old school burned to the ground. For the students it was good to get back home again after sharing quarters in Sagle and Old Farmin. James Stoicheff, Southside principal, has missed all the trials of getting the school running smoothly, as he is on leave to Boise to participate in the Idaho legislature. Parents and friends of the school in the Southside area around Cocolalla lake attended an open house and chili feed Jan. 23.

ROSS HALL IS KIWANIS MAN OF THE YEAR
The Sandpoint Kiwanis Man of the Year is veteran photographer Ross Hall. His nomination letter told of his efforts beyond the scope of his well-known scenic postcard business. Hall, a Kiwanian since 1936, has hosted many visiting celebrities, but shows the same hospitality to all who visit the area, and gives the same greeting to all his many friends, “Hello Youngun.”

Feb. 2, 1921 – EAST HOPE FIRE
East Hope has been having more than her share of misfortunes. The moving away of the mill was a hard blow, and on the last day of January, along comes the fire fiend and destroys the business part of the handsome little village by the lake. The fire started in the old hotel taking everything in that 3-cornered block, including the mill store, the theater, Dreisbach’s meat market, the village hall and half a dozen homes, including those of Harry Dreisbach, T. Scrivenor, and Julian Benchley. Without suitable fire fighting machinery, it was impossible to stop the flames.

LOCAL BRIEFS
Miss Louise Thomas pleaded guilty to petit larceny, after she broke into the Wisconsin hotel and took table linen and silver. She was given 15 days in county jail.
A Seattle clay expert examined the old brick plant and clay deposit here, declaring the clay excellent for a clay plant as well as for brick and tile. He said the old kiln is excellent for clay ware. The plant will likely be revived this summer.
The dog-sled proposition is popular among boys who own dogs, as most do. In fact it seems Sandpoint has as many dogs as boys and girls.
