The Super Bowl is in 5 days ... get your picks in

Alright, I lied. I told you I would have a dive into some of the prop bets for this year's Super Bowl in this past Saturday's paper.

Unfortunately, space constraints prevented me from following through on that, so here we are today with the breakdown.

Now this is just me analyzing some of the interesting prop bets for this weekend's big game. I wouldn't suggest going out and betting with the analysis I'm about to give because I'm no expert (but then again who is?).

I think it's just fun to keep a close eye on things other than the ridiculous amounts of commercials that will be played over and over again. I will even print out a list of a whole bunch of prop bets and circle my picks just to see how many I get right.

Speaking of commercials, let's start there. Not sure if you've noticed, but there are endless chip commercials during the Super Bowl. It has to be one of the most over advertised products during the Super Bowl, but it makes sense because Americans love junk food.

With that in mind, one prop bet I will be paying attention to is what bags of chips will appear first in Frito-Lay's "Twas the Night Before Super Bowl" commercial. The commercial will feature NFL legends: Peyton, Eli and Archie Manning, Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, Deion Sanders, Terry Bradshaw, Jerry Rice, Jerome Bettis and Marshawn Lynch.

Lay's, Doritos, Tostitos and Cheetos are all owned by Frito-Lay and Lay's is the favorite to be shown first. I'm going to go with the classic, but wouldn't be surprised if Tostitos steals this one. It seems like whenever there is a big event that gathers people around a bowl of chips and dip, Frito-Lay is there to shove a Tostitos commercial into your short-term memory.

For this one you will need to open the timer app on your phone. The over/under on the length of the national anthem is set at two minutes. This year, Eric Church and Jazmine Sullivan are performing the national anthem. Church and Sullivan will be the first duet to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" since 2006.

Over the last 28 Super Bowls, the average length of the performance of the national anthem has been roughly one minute and 55 seconds, according to SportsBettingDime.com. Given that it's a duet, I think it will just go over the two minute threshold, but this is one you will to have to sweat out because singers have a tendency to hold that last word (brave) for quite a while. The over/under on just that word in particular is six seconds.

Also pay attention to what quarterback is shown first during the national anthem. Given that the game is in Tampa, I think the camera will point toward Tom Brady first.

I think everyone is also wondering what song will be performed first during the Super Bowl halftime show. There are plenty of songs The Weeknd could start with it, but the one that has dominated playlists for the last year is "Blinding Lights." Given that, it's no surprise that song is the favorite in Vegas.

But I think, he might save that song for the big finale. Although, the start of the song is so perfect for an intro, how could he choose another one? As you can tell I'm conflicted, so why not go out on a limb and take "In Your Eyes." Odds on that one are 10-1 and I always love rooting for an underdog.

We've covered prop bets prior, during and in the middle of the game. Now lets look at an interesting postgame one. For years, the Super Bowl MVP has always been caught staring into the camera after the game and said, "I'm going to Disney World!" Will he say it this year? It's a promotional plug for Disney and my extensive research says yes.

And what color of Gatorade will be showered over the winning coach after the game? This one is a pretty big shot in the dark. It all comes down to what flavor of Gatorade the team enjoys most and who knows what the answer to that question is. However, we might know the Chiefs' favorite. They poured orange on coach Andy Reid after winning the Super Bowl last year, so I'll go with that (maybe some foreshadowing for my Super Bowl pick).

Remember to get in your picks for the Bee Super Bowl Challenge. Email in your prediction for the amount of points each team will score, the winner and your choice for MVP to dgreene@bonnercountydailybee.com. The winner will receive $100.

On Super Bowl Sunday, we will put a master list of the picks in the paper so you can follow along while watching the game. The deadline to submit your picks is 9 a.m. Saturday.

I will make my Super Bowl pick in Thursday's paper.
