Toxic organized religion discussed at Lifetree Café

| February 5, 2021 1:00 AM

Encounters with organized religion that can push us away from God will be explored at Lifetree Café on Monday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m.

The program, titled “Toxic Faith: When Religion Hurts,” features an interview with a private investigator who spent seven years investigating a fundamentalist church.

Authors Stephen Arterburn and Jack Felton, “Toxic Faith: Experiencing Healing From Painful Spiritual Abuse”, discovered that three factors are often present in churches that practice spiritual abuse: dictatorial leadership, a sense of superiority over other churches, and rules that distort God’s intent.

Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Lifetree Café meets at Jalapeno’s Mexican Restaurant, 314 N. Second Ave., Sandpoint.

Lifetree Café is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual, comfortable setting. Questions about Lifetree may be directed to stan@followcommunity.org or 208-304-6465.
