THE NEW STATE IDEA
An effort has again been started to consolidate northern Idaho and eastern Washington into a new state. The reasons for a new state are so many that it would seem there should be no opposition. The Idaho panhandle is removed from southern Idaho by mountain barriers. Physically and geographically it is no more part of southern Idaho than of North Dakota. The same condition exists in eastern and western Washington, which, while being nearer together through railroads, have different interests. North Idaho and eastern Washington joined would make a commonwealth of united interests and would indeed become an Inland Empire in fact as well as in name.
