Express opinions and let's all try to get along

| February 10, 2021 1:00 AM

I subscribe to or read online a number of daily newspapers as a former reporter and journalist, including The Wall Street Journal (which I receive daily in its full sheet print edition in the mail because I get a special rate which I can afford.) Of the latter (The Journal) I must say it is a very Republican-leaning newspaper, and in its double-page Opinion Page editorials, generally supported the actions of former president Trump.

Since his election, and most recently in the past few days, The Journal has had editorial suggestions that President Biden is signing bills into law which bypass the input of Congress. Biden has stated that he is just putting things back into place which existed under the Obama administration. This, among others, include national parks, the Obama health care plan, the Paris Peace Accord, many environmental restrictions recognizing climate change and so forth.

I know that the Journal usually leans toward the best interests of what we all call "Big Business," but I still subscribe because they have great reporters and insight about where this nation is going. I disagree with the Journal's opinion that Biden is bypassing Congress. I believe President Biden is putting things back in place like they were before Trump came into office.

I desire all factions of opinions that people in this country should be openly expressed, but that we have no extremists on either side. I want all Americans to come closer together again so that we may all love, defend (if, necessary by giving our lives in the military as so many heroes before us have done) and show the world that this Nation still stands proudly as an example of what Democracy and freedom of speech can do to eliminate the kind of conditions of life the citizens of Russia, North Korea, China and so many other countries have to deal with.

We must show the world we are a free nation and we stand together loving each other and will fight together for this freedom in the short lives each of us are granted.
